York Races, July 2024

In terms of prize money, this two day meeting at York is considered the third most valuable meeting of the whole season; with just the Dante and Ebor Festivals ahead. Forming part of the now regular "Super Saturday" in which high quality action features at three different races around the country, Newmarket, Ascot and York, the meeting is often well contested.
Saturday sees the much coveted John Smith's Cup heading the card. A showcase race in Yorkshire, it still remains a trophy that most stables want to win, even after sixty renewals. Elsewhere on the Saturday card, there would be pattern class action over two extremes of trip, five furlongs and a mile and three-quarters, where some stars of the future have emerged from.

The Friday sees yet more Group action in the form of the Summer Stakes for fillies. Competitive handicaps and a useful novice race help to form the intriguing racecard.
