Redcar Races, September 2022
A first visit to the North East coastline this year to Redcar racecourse in what is their 150th year of operation. A seven race card was in store for racegoers and it featured plenty of juvenile action with a novice and nursery handicap alongside an older horse novice. A pair of competitive class four handicaps provided the filling to the sandwich and plenty of familiar faces were back in action. The feature six furlong handicap saw a big field declared and included horses who have raced all around Yorkshire this summer. The likes of York winner It Just Takes Time, three-year-olds Bond Power and Milbanke and the old veterans The Armed Man and Wentworth Falls were all in action. The feature race went the way of It Just Takes Time, who has turned into one of the stories of the summer. The new-for-2022 scheme of "Yorkshire's Wonder Horse" looks for a horse to win a race at each of the nine Yorkshire racecourses in the space of eighteen months. It has given great impetus to trainers in the area to compete for the accolade and a new leader was formed. It Just Takes Time has been in great form recently after winning at York, Beverley and Pontefract and he made it four courses ticked off at Redcar in game style.
Earlier in the card, the apprentice jockeys race went to the Michael Dods trained Bold Territories under Mark Winn, the five furlong novice was won by Belsito, the nursery handicap saw a familiar name in the form of the Goodwood Festival winner Prairie Falcon, but the race to Hello Deira, who made the 240 mile trip from Lambourn for trainer Owen Burrows. Elsewhere, the middle distance handicap went the way of Pillar Of Hope who defied a 17 month absence to win for the Johnstons and to round things off, the older horse novice saw a small but select field and it went to Proclivitiy, who had a quick turnaround after finishing second at Thirsk just 24 hours earlier.
*Please note I did not cover the final race on the card*
