David Simcock Stable
The name of David Simcock feels like it has been around in the world of racing for decades when in fact, he sent his first runner out in only 2004. One of the leading names not only in domestic racing but also on the world stage, Group One victories have come flooding in in recent years as the quality continues to grow.
After winning the 2009 Cesarewitch in emphatic style with Darley Sun, a first top level victory in Britain came in the 2010 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket with sprinting star Dream Ahead. The grey son of Diktat would go on to win the July Cup, Prix de Foret and the Sprint Cup, creating history with Hayley Turner becoming the first female rider to win a Group One race outright. A first Classic came in the form of Teppal's win in the French 1000 Guineas and first Royal Ascot victory a few years before with Belios in 2015's King Edward VII Stakes.
On the world stage, the Simcock name has been a regular winner. Group One winners in Canada, France and Dubai have come in the form of the likes of I'm A Dreamer, Sheikhzayedroad and Trade Storm.
The current crop of horses in the two stables are just as exciting and this year has seen plenty of high class handicappers and group performers. The eye-catching grey horse Cash hasn't been seen on the track since April, but he made a big impression by narrowly going down to subsequent nine length Irish Derby winner Westover. Popular handicapper Bless Him sealed a rare win with a classic Jamie Spencer hold up ride in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket's July meeting and the veteran Desert Encounter remains in good heart and has been a regular fixture in the biggest international races. The three-year-old Light Infantry has also been an exciting prospect at Trillium Stables, winning both starts as a juvenile, before a second place in the French Group One Prix Jean Prat and Prix Jacques Le Marois to cement his places as one of the leading milers in his age group this year.
