York Races, July Music 2024

The sound of thundering hooves would make a swift return to the Knavesmire, just two weeks after the prestigious John Smith's Cup meeting.
This popular two day meeting begins the culmination of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival which sees a meeting in the Yorkshire region every day for a week. The additional post racing concerts bring in a heathy crowd on both the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and this year the crowd pleasers would be S Club and Kaiser Chiefs.
On the equine front, the racing has provided plenty of clues for future success over the course of the two days. The meeting is headlined by Saturday's Group Two York Stakes, which is seen as a key trial for the upcoming Juddmonte International. Elsewhere on the Saturday, there would be plenty of competitive handicaps which provided a challenge in finding the winner as well as the unique "Jump Jockey's Nunthorpe Handicap" in which jockeys from 'the other side' swap hurdles for furlongs in this one-off contest.

Friday evening's action is topped by the listed Lyric Stakes for fillies and mares, yet another valuable prize for the prospective broodmare career of those involved. The other standout of the six race card would see a juvenile novice contest over seven furlongs which has unveiled a few high class horses in recent years.
