York Races, June 2024

The popular two day charity meeting at York returned for another year in its usual spot in the calendar and served as a quality warm up act for Royal Ascot in the upcoming week.

The first half of the meeting featured speed and quality with plenty of class two contests on display. A class two handicap for fillies over six furlongs would be the curtain raiser with a class two handicap over ten furlongs ending the afternoon. In between, there would be a strong looking class two novice for juveniles and the richest selling race of the year, the Rous Stakes for two year olds.

Saturday's action would be headlined by a very competitive sprint handicap for three year olds which has unearthed future Group One winners in the past and this year's running would be a strong renewal. The undercard would feature a listed race which provides another step towards the flagship Ebor Handicap in August and the prestigious Queen Mother's Cup for female amateur riders.
